Marine Spatial Planning

Our seas are becoming increasingly busy: cables, pipelines, shipping lanes, conservation zones, offshore wind, artisanal and major commercial fishing… all operating against a background of climate change driven reduction in predictability. Which in turn changes predictability levels for long-term planning and investment decision-making.

Marine Spatial Planning is about planning when and where human activities take place at sea – to ensure these are as efficient and sustainable as possible. Such practices in the United Kingdom and Europe are still very much in their developmental phase. Elsewhere, marine spatial planning practices are more mature.

Blue Ltd. works with clients everywhere to deliver marine spatial planning assignments and help to unlock the full potential that efficient planning of marine space offers. We can take you through from initial conceptualisation to successful marine spatial plan implementation; reducing conflicts between sectors and creating synergies between different activities; encouraging investment; and increasing regional and international coordination and cooperation.
